A gear is often in use for decades, whereby the performance potential demanded of it frequently changes over the course of its service life. An increase or change in the performance parameters does not necessarily mean that the gear must be replaced by a larger gear as the drive unit can often be cost-effectively supplemented by retrofitting or upgrading.
An upgrade of this kind may involve various additional devices or replacing components – thus, for example, increasing the cooling capacity by increasing the size of the internal cooling coil or by using an additional external cooling unit to regulate the temperature of the lubricating oil. If the system is important and cannot be allowed to experience a standstill, monitoring elements can also be retrofitted. For example, these include pressure switch, temperature and flow sensors for the lubricant monitoring, particle counter in conjunction with filter units or even a complete oil lubrication cooling units in a modular design.
